Southwestern College offers fully accredited and online graduate and undergraduate degree programs through its professional studies program.  Through its Extra-Institutional Credit program, Southwester College has approved the transfer of the following courses for those that complete all of the requirements of the Youth Ministry Institute.

 

The Youth Ministry Institute fulfills the required amount of instructional contact hours as well as having instructors that meet the institutional requirement for Southwestern College.  The Youth Ministry Institute orients students “towards independent study, critical analysis, original research and the scholarly and professional application of specialized knowledge within a discipline” as required by Southwestern College.

 

Completion of the Youth Ministry Institute satisfies the requirements of the following Southwestern College courses:

Graduate Courses (15 hours)

SMIN530 Theology of Youth Ministry.

SMIN532 Faith and Formation in Developing Adults.

SMIN533 Program Design and Development in the Local Church.

SMIN596 Practicum in Specialized Ministry

SMIN597 Practicum in Specialized Ministry


Undergraduate Courses (15 hours)

REL 124 Introduction to Youth Ministry

REL 224 Adolescent Spirituality

REL 324 Teaching Methods in Youth Ministry

REL 424 Applications in Youth Ministry

REL 454 Practicum in Youth Ministry

 

To redeem these credits, a youth minister who has been certified by the Youth Ministry Institute as completing the program must:

  1. Apply for admission to Southwestern College and be accepted.  If applying for undergraduate admission, a youth minister must have an additional 15 hours of undergraduate credit in addition to certification in the Youth Ministry Institute.
  2. Request their transcript from the Youth Ministry Institute.
